fall is in the air

it is officially fall! it’s a toss up whether i like summer or fall better in montana. i like september best, which is a little of summer and a little of fall.

it’s amazing how a slight drop in temperatures automatically makes me want to cook more! yesterday i made roasted squash, potatoes, and zucchini. i’m excited for it to be root vegetable and soup season again (and i’ll be ready for fresh greens by spring!). today i made the first batch of chili for fall 2013. i was able to use venison from last year and canned tomatoes from last year’s garden. we haven’t done any canning yet this year due to not having a garden and not being able to get to the farmer’s market. hopefully we’ll get a few things canned here shortly.

next new recipe i hope to try? baked pumpkin donuts! i love all things pumpkin flavored.

we are currently house sitting for someone who lives on 22 private acres, on a creek, with a mountain view. it’s wonderful and we can’t wait to have our own home some day.
