spring break = check out a new forest service cabin
randy and i like to rent forest service cabins. it’s a cheap (and fun!) way to explore a new or familiar area. we rented the west fork of rock creek cabin last night. it was a quick trip, but fun to explore the rock creek and philispburg area. note: this time of year philipsburg is essentially shut down and few stores are open. good to know for next time.
bighorn sheep on the rock creek road
west fork of rock creek cabin. and my dear husband making himself at home.
first thing we did was walk to the creek and do some fishing. it was beautiful weather and a good time. i have a lot of learning to do still about hunting, but i have a LOT of learning to do about fishing.
even if we didn’t catch any fish we still had a good time. probably didn’t help that fallon kept wading in to the water; i blame him for scaring the fish away.
randy fly fishes. i use a spinning rod but hope to some day try fly fishing.
then we went in to philipsburg, an old mining town. a very small town with a very big candy store. biggest candy store i’ve been in. we both felt like little kids and starting filling up bags of candy.
then we explored a ghost town. wasn’t much exploring to do with all the snow but it was at least a cool view
headed back to the cabin, at which point randy enjoyed one of the black licorice pipes he picked out at the candy store. he loves black licorice and this candy was made in finland!
my lumberjack chopping wood. he made a fire inside, i made one outside.
the awesome stove in the cabin. wouldn’t mind owning a stove like this one day.
cider, yahtzee, chocolates and a fire. a relaxing spring evening.
coffee caramel on the left, dark chocolate salted caramel on the right.
thank you, self timer.
i thought the moss on the roof was cool
we spent a lot of time in the truck, exploring forest service roads and driving to different fishing spots. we like to go on adventures in the truck, especially when the windows are rolled down and country music is playing.
it was a great mini vacation.
