in the kitchen…
we had a relaxing weekend full of good eats. we’ve been trying new foods and new recipes. some turn out better than others but it’s fun to experiment.
randy cooked us a delicious friday night dinner: venison steaks, brussel sprouts and spuds (he calls potatoes spuds).
my 1st cooking experiment of the weekend: homemade graham crackers! simple and addictive. have you ever heard of graham flour? i hadn’t. and i was thankful that our health food store carried it.
storing them in my grandma’s cookie tin. i love storing things in this tin.
we have been saving up chicken bones from the few times that we’ve purchased whole chickens. on saturday afternoon randy decided to make chicken stock. the kitchen smelled wonderful for hours. he also decided he would make an irish venison stew and potato rolls. um, yum!
think that’s enough rolls for 2 people? i think randy had 6 with his dinner and i had 3. so tasty, especially hot out of the oven and with a hearty irish stew. probably the best rolls randy has made.
tonight i made mushroom, leek, and barley risotto. this was my first time making risotto from scratch. took a long time but totally worth it. i cooked the barley in mushroom broth. i think leeks are our new favorite soup/stew/risotto ingredient.
good thing i biked 34 miles today because i sure did some eating.
