soup x2

my in-laws were going to visit today and spend the night but it didn’t work out due to car troubles (but they may come tomorrow!). i had soaked grains yesterday in preparation to make soup for their arrival but alas, i have two big pots of soup and it’s just me. soup lasts and if i can help it, i’ll try to not eat it all before tomorrow evening in case they come then.

i tried two new recipes and they are both unique soups compared to the types i normally cook. one was a venison wheat berry stew in red wine sauce and the other was lentil and wheat berry cumin soup with kale. i like the venison in red wine sauce best. i also attempted to make a batch of “rustic flax seed rolls.” they are grainy and tasty, and go well with the whole grain soups.

my first time cooking with a cinnamon stick. the venison wheat berry stew in red wine sauce called for a 3 inch cinnamon stick. smelled yummy!

been cooking a lot of soup lately. we love soup, but i’m also looking forward to spring and transitioning to different foods.

on another note, it’s 6:30pm and i haven’t left the house today. all i’ve done is make pop tarts, flaxseed rolls and two kinds of soup. i also vacuumed the entire house and did more laundry. i wouldn’t mind an evening walk but we’ll see if i manage to make it out the door. it was a busy week at work so i’m thankful for the down time.

as for all the food posts, i wasn’t planning to turn “life is lekker” in to a food blog. i often cook more during the winter due to the fewer hours of daylight. there hasn’t been much snow to enjoy winter activities (unless you downhill ski). my birthday is next saturday and i am hoping to go cross-country skiing at a lake in the bitterroot mountains but i don’t know if there will be enough snow. so for now you’re left with posts about food.
