kitchen randomness

a glance at what’s been happening in our kitchen lately:

randy made a tasty pasta sauce from scratch: venison, mushrooms, greek yogurt, flour, spices and i don't even know all what. he wanted a creamy pasta dish and i rarely cook creamy things so i put him in charge :)

a friend visited this weekend and made delicious gluten free scones, complete with an apple syrup glaze and toasted walnuts. i'm not gluten free but i still managed to down 3 of these scones!

this is a sign of me nerding out on a cook book this past weekend. it's a library book but i marked the recipes i want to write down before taking it back :)

random pictures, i know, but hey, life is random some times. we’ve been doing a pretty good job of meal planning though this week isn’t off to a great start. i read cookbooks for over an hour on sunday and didn’t turn those recipes or ideas in to a meal plan. oops. i really do consider myself, and randy, a recipe rebel. i love to read cookbooks and i follow recipes when learning a new cooking skill, but for some reason i often stray from what is written. i guess that’s why i don’t post more recipes on the blog. i wouldn’t consider myself an overly creative person but for me, the kitchen is the main place i like to do my creating.

in other news, i’m getting stoked for the gardening season to arrive. i’ve made my list of desired seeds and i may go in on seed packets with a friend (because rarely is it necessary to plant an entire packet, unless it’s carrots or something of the sort). and we’re still seriously considering getting chickens. we know we want them, but we may have to switch rental properties within the next  6 months so we’ll see. my nanny family is getting chickens so until we get our own i can vicariously live through them 🙂
