we made soap again, but this time merely from various oils. we have a bit of venison tallow left over but we wanted to try a vegetable oil based soap…and we found a coffee oatmeal recipe that sounded great!
coffee oatmeal soap recipe (from one of the many soap books we got from the library)
melting down the oils (coconut oil often comes as a solid)
once the lye and oil mixture is reaching the tracing stage (a process of saponifcation – we’re learning new words!), you can add the fun ingredients
then you continue mixing! a stick blender is the way to go as it speeds the process up – it can take hours if you do it by hand.
pouring the soap into the mold i got randy for christmas (a 2lb log mold). the sides are hinged so you just put the sides down and cut the soap in to bars once it’s time
coffee oatmeal soap! still needs to cure for 4 weeks before it’s ready for use. it smells like cookies 🙂
i think we plan to try an orange citrus soap next 🙂
