cooking with a friend

a friend and i have been talking about getting together to cook a meal for a few weeks now. we’ve shared a meal together but we’ve never cooked together. we both love to cook and thought it would be fun to create a meal together. and it was! we snacked, chatted and sipped a red glass of wine as we cooked our dinner. on the menu was garlic mashed potatoes, lemon pepper broccoli, homemade wheat bread, spinach salad with purple onions and goat cheese and venison medallions cooked with a port wine, garlic and shallots. top it all off with huckleberry/peach/blueberry cobbler and it was a tasteful meal. no extraordinary ingredients, just good food. and a good time. was a relaxing and meaningful afternoon in the kitchen.

making the whole wheat bread. i tried a new recipe that i read in "mother earth news" magazine. it required maker a soaker and sponge the day before. the flavor is good but it didn't rise as much as it should. probably because we keep our house fairly cool :)

gluten free topping for the cobbler - turned out great! was almost shortcake like.

i had never had blue potatoes - they added some fun color to the meal and tasted like, well, potatoes.
