planning meals

we’re halfway through week 2 of planning our meals. so gar so good. well, sort of.

problem 1: we’re not halfway through the month but we’re halfway through our grocery budget.

problem 2: we are not good at making meals for 2! we made all of our planned meals last week but then we had a refrigerator full of leftovers. good thing, because we had already spent this week’s grocery budget. other than bagels, cheese and hummus, we haven’t purchased any groceries this week.

problem 3: checking grocery adds and coupons results in buying more groceries! we realize that a good deal isn’t a good deal if you don’t need it, but half off tillamook cheese, or hummus for $2 that is regularly $4.99 (combined a coupon with the weekly special) is hard to beat. so we stocked up.

we’re moving in to town (more on that later), so we’re trying to simplify in several areas. well, we hope to simplify – haven’t packed a single box. yet.

as i write this post randy is reading a grocery add, telling me what’s on sale and asking, “is this a good price for broccoli? chocolate milk is on sale! i like gala apples.  LIFE cereal for $1.49 a box!” etc. etc. love it.
